3. You don't have summer reading! However, for those of you who are concerned about maintaining your academic progress and/or preparing for the ACT, I would HIGHLY recommend reading AT LEAST one book over the summer. One book--seriously, that's not much. At all. Stop whining.  :)

  1. Turn in your journals and article of the week response (on enrichment attachment) to Canvas. I’ve created an assignment called March 30th to April 3rd Enrichment Assignment.
  2. My Zoom office hours this week are Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am to 11 am. I'll send access directions and a link to Tuesday's meeting tomorrow morning. 
  3. If you’re not done with 1984, continue reading that novel during your independent reading time (which is described in the enrichment materials). Continue to take notes, as well. You should be through Part Two already (that was due upon your return from spring break), and Part Three is short, so it shouldn’t be too tough for you to get it done.
  4. Once you’re done with 1984, THEN choose an independent reading book. Reach out to me if you need help with finding an e-book or if you want a book recommendation.
  5. If you’re missing notes or any other work from first semester, complete it and send it to me. You will earn credit for any missing work that you turn in.
  6. I’m getting your essays graded, slowly but surely. Look for an essay grade early next week. You WILL be allowed to make revisions to your essays for up to half credit back.

End of Night writing assignment—What did you learn from this text/this unit, and what will you take away from it? Think about themes we discussed, Wiesel’s transformation, the transformation of Germany, victims, bystanders, etc. Use at least 2 quotes from the memoir itself, as well as examples or quotes from any other information from this unit (videos, notes, etc.) to support your ideas. Should be 2-3 paragraphs long. You’ll also have a summative group assignment next week. 
-You are welcome to revise your OMAM essay for up to half credit back. You have until Monday, February 3rd to do so. Please either email me a copy of your essay or print a copy and bring it to class.

Read the modernized version of Aristotle’s “Poetics.” As you do so, annotate based on the following (due Friday):
Find the author of a tragedy’s warning message to the audience.
Comment on the cause of human suffering, as described here.
Look for the traits of a tragic hero.
Highlight important Greek vocabulary and definitions, especially those that relate to the parts of a tragedy and elements of the tragic hero.
Why should the audience feel fear when they view a tragic flaw?
